(NYE!) Today’s principle is “Kuumba” which means creativity. Its described as striving to leave things “more beautiful & beneficial” than you found it. I can’t express how crucial this principle is to me personally but to the world we live in. It is practiced in so many forms. It is an extension of so many lives, times, cultures, and more. It is a principle that does as much good for the individual as it does the world. Don’t be afraid to get to know your creative self whatever form it takes. #kuumba #creativity #kwanzaa TUESDAY Omg HAPPY NEW YEAR, everyone! It is the first day of a new time for us all & thus the last day of Kwanzaa! Today’s principle is “Imani” which means faith. Faith takes a different form for each of us. But at the root of this principle is believing in people, good, right, truth, beauty. Life’s hardships do not discriminate. Adversity & tragedy come for us all. We know life is unpredictable, but we are not living our lives alone. In our faith, lies our hope. As we each begin our indiviso 2019 journeys, I implore you to hold tightly to your hope or continue searching for it. Hope is not only what guides the way out of storms but rebuilds our spirit as we respond and adjust to those difficult experiences. The last days of 2018 (all of 2018) was filled with as much love as it was loss. This is not news. But how we do move on from here? How do learn? What do we change? What helps us continue to live & love well? I think his principle is a big part of the answer. Here’s to another unpredictable year, but loving it out with Imani. #imani #faith #kwanzaa #happynewyear WEDNESDAY Good morning, friends! I know we’re just on the other side of a new year, but it’s midweek & the holiday season is lingering. I hope everyone has had a lovely holiday. I hope as we moved through the various holidays that there has been ample time to reflect on yourselves as well as others. Resolutions are great, but we know they aren’t an overnight process. What changes are you serious about making? What actions are you serious about taking? What impact are you serious about having? One, some, none? Put the “plan” aside for a minute, and let’s contemplate the why behind the resolve. Support one another in the changes truly desired because no real change comes easy & good company during that process can often be just as hard to find. THURSDAY Good morning! As the break (my break) winds down, my mind has been very full of all that awaits and all there is to be done... usually this is the part where one might get overwhelmed by mere thoughts. But not this time. This time, the time we have, is not meant to be spent letting thoughts of the future keep us from moving toward our futures. Think about what may happen, what is approaching, what needs to be done. You should. You should be dreaming & hoping about what lies ahead, but as it is the future (& thus, not here) it should NOT paralyze you today. Today, you are needed & you’re needed mobile, willing, and open, with purpose and compassion. Today, do anything but stand still FRIDAY Good morning! Happy Friday! As work & school pick back up for many of us, I just to wish safe travels to any and all who are journeying back. Today, like any day gifted to you, is a day or rather The day to live the best you can. Make your moves, take your next steps, laugh, love, serve, contemplate, create, learn, teach. Do one, some, or all. Do what calls you, moves you in this day. And whilst you do that, don’t forget to spare a minute or two for some intentional reflection on you, your experiences, the people in your life, etc. Reflection can often bolster our gratitude & humility, which in turn can fuel our speech & actions.
